Free Quran Chapter 49: The Walls (Al-Hujurat)
Learn from GOD that you should always investigate rumors or news. Suspicion is a sin; don’t think negatively. We live in the information age now. You would assume that this means people are MORE informed and have easier access to INFORMATION. I’m afraid that’s not completely true. Imagine a small tribe in the middle of the desert. Their only knowledge and point of reference is relative to their own LIMITED time and space. So they invent ideas, stories, theories, ideologies and all kinds of stuff – yet all of it is LIMITED to their time and space. Logically, the information they offer is therefore very limited and biased.
Now let us take this same example and apply it to the so called INFORMATION AGE. On the Internet, you will find not ONE tribe, but BILLIONS of tribes, each person is a tribe. They are sharing information that is limited to their point of reference, which is their location, level of education and experience. Meaning, at the end of the day, we still have to rely on TANGIBLE evidence that exists in the REAL WORLD. The Internet is a tool that can be used to share TANGIBLE evidence. However, everything will be broken down by these billions of tribes who now want to shape the EVIDENCE to fit into their world view. Then these billions of tribes share their version of the truth on the Internet. Logically, this means a large portion of everything on the Internet is simply corrupted data, corrupted information.
So no, the information age doesn’t mean that people using the Internet are suddenly MORE informed. And also, the information that we do have access to is mostly corrupt in one way or the other. Real information only make up a small portion of the Internet. The worst areas is social media. They should be used to keep in touch with family and friends, and find new friends and partners with similar interests. Everything else on social media should be examined carefully. Just because something has been shared and viewed by millions – does NOT make it true.
As believers, we have to always examine and verify everything before we can trust it. Including PEOPLE who contact us. You must know who you are dealing with. I made the mistake once in my life of not first examining who I was dealing with. They tricked me into moving in with them and work in their company. Then slowly their faults were exposed, they were completely different people, they had only put up a fake personality to make themselves seem righteous. But in reality they were vile, weak, selfish and liars. And it is my own fault for not first knowing who I was dealing with, I ended up losing everything I had worked for during a 3 year period. That’s 3 years of my life that have gone to nothing, which I will never get back.
Don’t trust people because of their words, never ever trust anyone because of their words. You must examine their life, their past actions and their current actions and their planned actions. Because action speak louder than words.
So how does all this work with the fact that we should never be suspicious of people? Well, it is very simple. When you demand evidence, then you are first and foremost following GOD’s commandment that tells you to do so. For example, perhaps your friend gets upset because you want to write down how much money he owes you. Your friend might even accuse you of not trusting and even suspecting that he or she will trick you. This is just a stupid behavior, don’t feel bad about it, you are not doing anything wrong by demanding evidence or a recipe. It is a commandment from GOD.
Likewise, it is a commandment from GOD that you investigate. If someone tells you something, then you investigate. If they start to accuse you of suspecting them for something or that you are being silly. Then ignore them. YOU ARE NOT suspecting them. You are only doing what GOD commanded you to do. IF YOU GIVE IN to their accusations, then you WILL break GOD’s commandment. Do you want to spare peoples egoistical emotions at the expense of disobeying GOD? I don’t think you should, man up/woman up. It is your GOD given right to investigate and find the truth.
Suspicion is only suspicion when you actually do JUDGE someone without first investigating and without evidence. That’s the difference. Burn this fact deeply into your brain. It will help you from falling to people who play on your good nature.
Quran Chapter 49: The Walls (Al-Hujurat)
[49:0] In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
[49:1] O you who believe, do not place your opinion above that of God and His messenger. You shall reverence God. God is Hearer, Omniscient.
[49:2] O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the prophet,* nor shall you shout at him as you shout at each other, lest your works become nullified while you do not perceive.
*49:2 Whenever the word “prophet” (Nabi) is used in reference to Muhammad, it invariably refers to him during his life, not after his death. Obviously, we cannot possibly raise our voices above Muhammad’s voice, now that he is dead. See also 33:56.
[49:3] Surely, those who lower their voices at the messenger of God are the ones whose hearts are prepared by God to become righteous.* They have deserved forgiveness and a great recompense.
*49:3 Respecting the messenger helps outsiders and visitors in coming to God’s message.
[49:4] As for those who call on you from outside the walls, most of them do not understand.
[49:5] Had they been patient until you came out to them, it would have been better for them. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Investigate Rumors Before Believing Them
[49:6] O you who believe, if a wicked person brings any news to you, you shall first investigate, lest you commit injustice towards some people, out of ignorance, then become sorry and remorseful for what you have done.
[49:7] And know that God’s messenger has come in your midst. Had he listened to you in many things, you would have made things difficult for yourselves. But God made you love faith and adorned it in your hearts, and He made you abhor disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience. These are the guided ones.
[49:8] Such is grace from God and His blessings. God is Omniscient, Most Wise.
Reconcile The Believers
[49:9] If two groups of believers fought with each other, you shall reconcile them. If one group aggresses against the other, you shall fight the aggressing group until they submit to God’s command. Once they submit, you shall reconcile the two groups equitably. You shall maintain justice; God loves those who are just.
The Real Family
[49:10] The believers are members of one family; you shall keep the peace within your family and reverence God, that you may attain mercy.
Believers Set the Example
[49:11] O you who believe, no people shall ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or make fun of your names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. Anyone who does not repent after this, these are the transgressors.
Suspicion Is Sinful
[49:12] O you who believe, you shall avoid any suspicion, for even a little bit of suspicion is sinful. You shall not spy on one another, nor shall you backbite one another; this is as abominable as eating the flesh of your dead brother. You certainly abhor this. You shall observe God. God is Redeemer, Most Merciful.
The Only Criterion For Distinguishing Among The People
[49:13] O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of God is the most righteous. God is Omniscient, Cognizant.
Muslim vs Mu’men
[49:14] The Arabs said, “We are Mu’mens (believers).” Say, “You have not believed; what you should say is, `We are Muslims (submitters),’ until belief is established in your hearts.” If you obey God and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
[49:15] Mu’mens (believers) are those who believe in God and His messenger, then attain the status of having no doubt whatsoever, and strive with their money and their lives in the cause of God. These are the truthful ones.
[49:16] Say, “Are you informing God about your religion? God knows everything in the heavens and the earth. God is Omniscient.”
Who Is Doing Whom A Favor?
[49:17] They act as if they are doing you a favor by embracing Submission! Say, “You are not doing me any favors by embracing Submission. God is the One who is doing you a great favor by guiding you to the faith, if you are sincere.”
[49:18] God knows all the secrets in the heavens and the earth; God is Seer of everything you do.
